Six days you shall labour and do all your work….” – Exodus 20:9

Our labour, and how we spend our finances, can function as an important part of fulfilling our cultural mandate. In Genesis 1 God commanded us to develop the earth and rule over it. We work to glorify God – not just to put food on the table. Our work, finances, and all material possessions come from God and are meant to be directed towards Him.

21 May 2013 Toronto casino is dead!

The plans for the new Toronto casino have crumbled in a pretty spectacular way. In a crushing defeat, the Toronto casino was sent to the dustbin of history with a vote of 38-6! What is most impressive about the story is that grassroots Canadians are credited with making it happen. Regular Canadians, worried about the health of families, concerned about the ability of small and mid-size businesses being able to compete with casinos and disgusted by the cruelty of governments making incredible sums of money off of addicts, these Canadians...

21 Feb 2013 Socialized workplace insurance doesn’t work

Update: Addendum added - But what does the Bible say? Bill 119 amended the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act in 2008, making the government-managed WSIB insurance coverage mandatory for certain categories of people in the construction industry including independent operators and sole proprietors. The fact that a self-employed, independent contractor may already have private insurance at a better rate, insuring him or her on and off the job (WSIB only insures on-site accidents) is no substitute: the law says such contractors MUST buy into the government run system.

28 Nov 2012 Toronto Reverses Plan to Ban Plastic Bags

One of the most popular articles on the ARPA website (thanks to Google) is an article that was written for us about the fad of banning plastic bags. You can find that here. The Globe and Mail has reported that Toronto City Council has made a surprise move to reverse its plan to ban plastic bags. Learn more. Although we would hope that common sense played a role in the decision, it appears that legal challenges were a more dominant concern....

17 Oct 2012 ARPA Appears Before BC Finance Committee

ARPA Canada's Executive Director Mark Penninga addressed BC's Standing Committee on Finance on Tuesday, making recommendations for the provinces 2013 budget. The 10 MLA's used the full time allotted for questions. After the presentation two MLA's took the time to personally thank ARPA for its work. One noted that as they travelled the province looking for input, they have not yet had anything comparable to ARPA's presentation. We were also pleased to hear that one of the MLA's recently completed Dr. Van Dam's excellent book God & Government. It is encouraging to see just how much better we are getting to know our public officials since we first presented to this committee in 2008.

06 Sep 2012 Tory MP calls for new rules that would allow public servants to opt out of union dues (2)

Globe and Mail, Sept 6 2012: An Ottawa-area Conservative MP says Canada’s largest union of federal public servants shouldn’t have endorsed separatist parties during the Quebec election and is calling for new rules allowing members to opt out of paying dues. The proposal from MP Pierre Poilievre is similar to “right-to-work” legislation that has been adopted by more than 20 U.S. states, provoking heated debate and resistance from unions. “I cannot imagine how it could possibly be in the interests of a Canadian public servant for the union to back...

16 Mar 2012 Excellent Video: Balancing the Federal Budget in One Easy Lesson

The following video does an excellent job of showing that our civil governments can (and must) control spending. We recommend sharing this clip with your MP (send them the link). What this video doesn't point out is that a growing state necessarily means that civil government is taking over jurisdiction that God has not entrusted to it (see Romans 13). Society is abdicating its responsibilities to the State, and the secular State welcomes the new power. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8mWOHNNLtQ...

12 Dec 2011 Three more letters from Carman MB

Letter # 1 - Altona Red River Echo Manitoba, Dec 8th 2011: Main St. deserves most of the blame In Bills Rolls' letter "Bankers and big business are not blame free (Nov. 17 edition of The Red River Valley Echo), he said he thinks I want all government abolished and all regulations are evil. Many regulations that are oppressive does not mean all are. A lot of government should be abolished (eg. Human Rights Commissions) is not the same as calling for all government abolished.
