Pre-Born Human Rights

For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” – Psalm 139:13-14

Since R v Morgentaler in 1988 abortion has been legal in Canada, and since the Canadian government has not created any new legislation protecting the unborn, Canada remains one of the only countries in the world without any abortion laws at all. WeNeedaLaw.ca is an organization started by ARPA Canada to focus efforts on this vacuum. Find a link to their website below for more on our efforts.

29 Apr 2021 Abortion: A Federal Budget Priority

A government budget tells us what their current priorities are. This year’s Federal budget shows multiple priorities for the government in the upcoming months. Among other details listed, the government includes a section which focuses on ‘Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Care Information and Services.’ It’s not very long, but there are a number of items in this section that stand out. The government treats abortion (as a part of ‘sexual and reproductive health care') as something which Canada needs to support wholeheartedly and provide unfettered access to. According...

09 Apr 2021 Hard At Work Defending Girls

Waiting. We don’t like waiting. Waiting for an appointment. Waiting in line. Waiting for the bus on a cold winter day. Keeping somebody else waiting. We just don’t like waiting. Those fighting for the cause of pre-born human rights can relate to this. They have waited and waited and waited for this issue to be debated at Parliament. Well, the wait is over. This issue of abortion is set to be tabled at the House of Commons. And this time, it’s about defending girls. Now that's worth waiting for. What an...

22 Mar 2021 Conservative Convention Debrief

Last week, the Conservative Party of Canada held its bi-annual policy convention. Due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions, this convention was held virtually, enabling a record number of delegates to attend this year. Conventions are opportunities for members of political parties to come together, build the party, and prepare for the next election. At this virtual convention, delegates participated in campaign training, watched Conservative leader Erin O’Toole outline the party’s post-COVID-19 recovery plan, voted for national councillors (who help run and direct the party), voted on changes to the party constitution, and,...

28 Apr 2020 March… No, wait… Convoy for Life!

Marches for Life across the country have been cancelled due to the prohibitions of large gatherings prompted by COVID-19. Although many Marches for Life are migrating to online formats featuring virtual speakers and prayers, these “virtual marches” miss out on the public, powerful statement that the Marches for Life provide. So, instead of marching for life, let’s go convoying for life in our local communities! You have likely seen, heard about, or even participated in small birthday party convoys or convoys in support of health care workers recently. Some ARPA staff even...

23 May 2019 Together, we championed pre-born human rights during Life Week 2019

What an incredible amount of progress is being made as we work to advance pre-born human rights! While the amazing work going on in the United States to enact legislation that restricts abortion is encouraging, there is also much being done in our country that, Lord willing, will result in legal protections for our pre-born neighbours. Let’s look at some of the activity from just the past few weeks.  Cross-Canada Impact of SignsUp Campaign During the week of May 6-10 ARPA’s pro-life initiate We Need a Law carried out the SignsUp campaign....

11 Mar 2019 March for Life 2019

Marches for Life are being held in our nation’s capital and provincial capitals across the country on Thursday, May 9th. Before marching, we would like to start the day in meditation and prayer together asking God to end the evil that is abortion in Canada. Join us at one of the Reformed pro-life prayer services being hosted in a city near you. After the prayer service, head to the provincial Legislature (Toronto, Edmonton, Victoria) or Parliament Hill (Ottawa) to join with thousands more in speaking up for the most vulnerable...

05 Mar 2019 Even in a world with chemical abortion, Canada still needs an abortion law

In “Why abortion pills have changed the future of pro-life activism in Canada” Marie-Claire Bissonnette challenges the pro-life movement to take stock of changes in how abortions are being done. I heartily thank Marie-Claire for asking hard questions about current pro-life strategies. We all benefit from respectful and honest analysis, and the lives of the pre-born depend on our effectiveness. Chemical abortions (via abortion drugs) are making abortion seem much less messy and unpalatable, Marie-Claire says. So, she argues, prolife strategies that rely on graphic images of aborted children are increasingly...

19 Feb 2019 Why ARPA Canada is honoured to assist with organizing a March for Life in Toronto

From ARPA Canada’s first day in 2007, our strategy has been to devote as much time and energy as possible to working proactively in achieving what is possible. We are an association for ACTION. And, by God’s grace alone, these past 12 years have shown us that far more is possible than we even imagined. From our first day, we have tried our best to work alongside others who share our convictions, and that remains a priority moving forward. Our mission is not to build up our organization, but to advance...

14 Nov 2018 Pregnancy Care Centre Fundraiser

Six weeks ago the Covenant Canadian Reformed School’s ARPA Club started planning the Pregnancy Care Centre Fundraiser. We had heard that the new Pregnancy Care Centre in our community was receiving more women seeking help than that they had first expected. As a result they were running out of supplies. What better way to show our Christian and Pro-life identity then to take action within our school. The fundraiser lasted one month (three weeks). We split the 12 grades in our school into four groups. K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12....

07 Sep 2018 We Need a Law Flag Display

We Need a Law flag display The flag display went well, with around 30 students volunteering to help. We were set up at a park on a busy street corner in downtown Hamilton, and didn't have a lot of foot traffic, but there were a considerable number of cars going by. Many of the drivers and passengers honked or gave us thumbs-up -- even one city bus driver, who went by several times on his regular route, honked each time he went by in support of our cause. It was amazing...
