Lethbridge Herald, July 13 2011: I am responding to Dave Mabell’s article and The Herald’s editorial about our human rights commissions. The fact is that, due to a loose set of governing rules, the Human Rights Commission in our province is able to make arbitrary decisions on all sorts of issues. That concerns me. That is not the protection of human rights!

Canada is known for its freedoms. We have freedom of speech and freedom of religion. Our identity as a free country must not change – it’s who we are. Eliminating the human rights commissions is not such a crazy idea. We have our courts and we have our police (who both have their own stringent sets of rules to follow) whose duty it is to protect Canadian citizens. In addition, taxpayers could keep more money in their own pockets.

The truth is that our human rights commissions have evolved into agencies that provide a way for activists to push their own agendas, claiming “hate” and “discrimination.”

“God, keep our land glorious and free .. . .” Belated happy Canada Day, all!
