21 Mar 2014 Loyola now at the Supreme Court

Update from Legal Counsel, André Schutten: I was very impressed by the arguments made in the Supreme Court this morning. Although I would have preferred a more forceful approach by the lawyer for Loyola, he still did a good job of defending his client. The seven interveners were able to strongly articulate the values and principles that ARPA and the ACES Canada coalition advocated for in our factum. Although the question of the "neutrality" of the State was not addressed enough and the role of parents was only touched on briefly,...

05 Feb 2014 New EasyMail: C-518 Revoking Pensions for Convicted Politicians Act

In this age of public distrust towards our governing officials, MP John Williamson has introduced a private member's bill (C-518) which addresses political corruption directly. In a nutshell, it would ensure that a MP or Senator who has been convicted of a serious crime while serving in office would not be eligible to collect their Parliamentary pension. This would make any government official think a few times before using the system for personal advantage. It is easy for the public and media to be cynical of our government leaders -...

08 Jul 2013 Bill C-279 (Transgendered Rights) Can Still Be Stopped!

Although we would love to see our leaders stand up for what is right, sometimes we have to rely on other means to promote good law in Canada. When it comes to Bill C-279, which would add extra protections in law for transgendered Canadians, a majority of both the House of Commons and Senate support this dangerous legislation (learn more about it here). But that does not mean it will pass. If it can be stalled long enough and doesn't make it through all the required steps, it will not...

04 Jun 2013 Bill 279 is not passed yet: Please help stop it!

ARPA Note: We have followed this bill extensively but encourage you to persist in opposing it. You can find a sample letter and contact information for all the Senators here. Find a video, action items, and more information here. REAL WOMEN OF CANADA - June 4, 2013: The bill on the transgendered (Bill C-279) is now being reviewed by the Senate Committee on Human Rights.  Supporters of this bill claim that it is merely a “simple” amendment to extend human rights protection to another category of deserving individuals. Yet, when the bill was reviewed by the House of Commons Justice Committee in December, 2012, testimony was provided by the Canadian Human Rights Commission, and also the officials from the Department of Justice. They testified that there was no requirement to amend the Canadian Human Rights Act and the Criminal Code, since the transgendered were already protected under the category of “sex” in the Canadian Human Rights Act.  They also referred to the existence of substantial case law to support this position. Why, then, has this transgendered bill been placed before Parliament?

30 Oct 2012 Christians persecuted throughout the world

the Telegraph, Oct 29 2012: Imagine the unspeakable fury that would erupt across the Islamic world if a Christian-led government in Khartoum had been responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Sudanese Muslims over the past 30 years. Or if Christian gunmen were firebombing mosques in Iraq during Friday prayers. Or if Muslim girls in Indonesia had been abducted and beheaded on their way to school, because of their faith. Such horrors are barely thinkable, of course. But they have all occurred in reverse, with Christians falling...

23 Aug 2012 Justice that Restores

By: Eric Metaxas, August 23, 2012, Breakpoint.org: For the past three broadcasts, we’ve talked about the violations of human dignity that are all-too-common in our criminal justice system. Christians cannot be silent in the face of outrages like prison rape, the mistreatment of mentally-ill prisoners, and overcrowded prison facilities. What makes silence even more unacceptable is that there is a biblically-based alternative to the status quo: it’s called restorative justice. Four years ago, Mike Huckabee summed up one of restorative justice’s key principles when he said that “we’ve got to quit locking up all the people that we’re mad at and lock up the people that we’re really afraid of . . .”
