28 Apr 2020 March… No, wait… Convoy for Life!

Marches for Life across the country have been cancelled due to the prohibitions of large gatherings prompted by COVID-19. Although many Marches for Life are migrating to online formats featuring virtual speakers and prayers, these “virtual marches” miss out on the public, powerful statement that the Marches for Life provide. So, instead of marching for life, let’s go convoying for life in our local communities! You have likely seen, heard about, or even participated in small birthday party convoys or convoys in support of health care workers recently. Some ARPA staff even...

27 Mar 2020 A Tale of Two Pandemics

Every day, COVID-19 numbers make top headlines. So, you probably have some idea of the numbers in Canada. As of today: Total people tested: >175,000 (most tests are negative or results pending) Total cases (confirmed or presumptive): ~4,700 (there are likely many more unknown cases) Total COVID-related deaths: 55 Meanwhile, since Canada legalized euthanasia in June 2016, medical practitioners have deliberately killed over 14,000 patients, with legal approval and public funding. And the rate of euthanasia deaths is accelerating. From June to December of 2016, about 1,000 people were killed. But...

20 Mar 2020 Official House of Commons Petition for Spinal Muscular Atrophy Medication

For those who have followed ARPA Canada's work for some time, you may recall a presentation we did in 2016 to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Justice when they were debating the first euthanasia bill, C-14. ARPA Canada opposed the bill but urged that, if the bill was to pass, the government must do everything in its power to ensure that those who are vulnerable get all the support necessary so that the circumstances that drive a person to request assisted suicide is more or less eliminated. Presenting...

euthanasia and organ donation

10 Jan 2020 Euthanasia is increasing organ donations. What should we do?

Because the time, place, and means of medically assisted deaths are pre-planned, euthanasia makes it easier than ever before to collect human organs and tissue before they spoil. The Ottawa Citizen reports more than a 100% increase in donations from MAiD patients in Ontario since 2017. But this is not a silver lining to legalized euthanasia, as it might first appear, and as it is being portrayed. It confronts Canadians with difficult ethical questions. To name a few that the medical community has also been grappling with: How does the possibility...

23 May 2019 Together, we championed pre-born human rights during Life Week 2019

What an incredible amount of progress is being made as we work to advance pre-born human rights! While the amazing work going on in the United States to enact legislation that restricts abortion is encouraging, there is also much being done in our country that, Lord willing, will result in legal protections for our pre-born neighbours. Let’s look at some of the activity from just the past few weeks.  Cross-Canada Impact of SignsUp Campaign During the week of May 6-10 ARPA’s pro-life initiate We Need a Law carried out the SignsUp campaign....

11 Mar 2019 March for Life 2019

Marches for Life are being held in our nation’s capital and provincial capitals across the country on Thursday, May 9th. Before marching, we would like to start the day in meditation and prayer together asking God to end the evil that is abortion in Canada. Join us at one of the Reformed pro-life prayer services being hosted in a city near you. After the prayer service, head to the provincial Legislature (Toronto, Edmonton, Victoria) or Parliament Hill (Ottawa) to join with thousands more in speaking up for the most vulnerable...

05 Mar 2019 Even in a world with chemical abortion, Canada still needs an abortion law

In “Why abortion pills have changed the future of pro-life activism in Canada” Marie-Claire Bissonnette challenges the pro-life movement to take stock of changes in how abortions are being done. I heartily thank Marie-Claire for asking hard questions about current pro-life strategies. We all benefit from respectful and honest analysis, and the lives of the pre-born depend on our effectiveness. Chemical abortions (via abortion drugs) are making abortion seem much less messy and unpalatable, Marie-Claire says. So, she argues, prolife strategies that rely on graphic images of aborted children are increasingly...

19 Feb 2019 Why ARPA Canada is honoured to assist with organizing a March for Life in Toronto

From ARPA Canada’s first day in 2007, our strategy has been to devote as much time and energy as possible to working proactively in achieving what is possible. We are an association for ACTION. And, by God’s grace alone, these past 12 years have shown us that far more is possible than we even imagined. From our first day, we have tried our best to work alongside others who share our convictions, and that remains a priority moving forward. Our mission is not to build up our organization, but to advance...

31 Jan 2019 A timeline of ARPA Canada’s engagement on the euthanasia issue

Euthanasia has been a top priority issue for ARPA Canada over the past few years. 2015: ARPA intervened in Carter v. Canada, the landmark Supreme Court case which struck down the prohibition on assisted suicide. 2015: ARPA produced a paper showing the government that their legislative options included affirming a total ban of euthanasia. 2015: ARPA  engaged in direct lobbying on Bill C-14, which amended the Criminal Code to legalize physician-assisted suicide.  The Hill Times recorded ARPA Canada as having the top number of Parliamentary lobby meetings on this...
