28 Jan 2019 CCA report leaves Parliament with many warnings about expanding euthanasia

In December 2018, the Council of Canadian Academies completed a massive report on assisted suicide, and its possible expansion in Canada. Requested by the Ministers of Justice and Health and tabled in Parliament, this report was written “in order to inform a national dialogue among the Canadian public, and between the public and decision makers.” It’s helpful to define terms used in this article. The CCA reports makes consistent reference to “MAID”, which stands for “Medical Assistance in Dying”. We strongly object to this euphemistic term, since it intentionally...

14 Nov 2018 Pregnancy Care Centre Fundraiser

Six weeks ago the Covenant Canadian Reformed School’s ARPA Club started planning the Pregnancy Care Centre Fundraiser. We had heard that the new Pregnancy Care Centre in our community was receiving more women seeking help than that they had first expected. As a result they were running out of supplies. What better way to show our Christian and Pro-life identity then to take action within our school. The fundraiser lasted one month (three weeks). We split the 12 grades in our school into four groups. K-3, 4-6, 7-9, and 10-12....

17 Oct 2018 Physicians at SickKids discuss euthanasia for children

In 2015, when the Supreme Court struck down the law against euthanasia, it dealt another blow to the dignity of human life. Canadian law now glorifies death as an autonomous choice. As if the list of people eligible to receive death at the hands of doctors was not long enough, Canadians are already discussing extending euthanasia to minors. As if the list of people eligible to receive death at the hands of doctors was not long enough, Canadians are already discussing extending euthanasia to minors. In an essay entitled, “Medical Assistance in...

20 Sep 2018 Debate on expanding euthanasia continues, ARPA releases new policy report

This fall, Parliament will examine the issue of expanding euthanasia to “mature minors” and to persons with mental illness. Since 2016 (Bill C-14), Canada has permitted anyone who is at least 18, has a grievous and irremediable medical condition, and whose death is reasonably foreseeable, to receive “medical aid in dying” (MAiD). To put it in stark terms, the law now permits medical professionals to kill their adult patients, as long as the patient consents and has the requisite medical conditions. In Spring 2015, ARPA released its first Assisted Suicide and Euthanasia...

07 Sep 2018 We Need a Law Flag Display

We Need a Law flag display The flag display went well, with around 30 students volunteering to help. We were set up at a park on a busy street corner in downtown Hamilton, and didn't have a lot of foot traffic, but there were a considerable number of cars going by. Many of the drivers and passengers honked or gave us thumbs-up -- even one city bus driver, who went by several times on his regular route, honked each time he went by in support of our cause. It was amazing...

07 Sep 2018 March for Life – Victoria 2018

March for Life - Victoria 2018 For those of us in BC making it out to the capital for the March for Life and surrounding events is no small ordeal. A mother with 4 children that I met up with, started their day with a rude awakening at around 4:30 am to make in to a carpool in Langley and off to the 8am ferry to the Island as the 9 am was booked up well in advance of the march. I was among those privileged to board the 8 am...

04 Jul 2018 “Free To Do Business” challenges summer jobs attestation

by Lighthouse News Another court challenge has been filed against the federal government's “attestation requirement” for funding under the Canada Summer Jobs program. Earlier this year, the government changed the eligibility rules for the program, which subsidizes student employment across the country, by requiring applicants to affirm their commitment to so-called “reproductive rights”, including abortion. This week, a new organization was formed to challenge the attestation program in court. The group “Free to do Business” has filed an application in the Federal Court of Canada for judicial review of the attestation requirement....
